Bonn Open Synthesis System (BOSS) 3

On December 19th, the Phonetics group at the University of Bonn (Institute for Communication Sciences, formerly IKP) finally released the Bonn Open Synthesis System. BOSS is a free unit selection speech synthesis software licensed under the GPL. It was conceived as a modular, extensible client/server application suitable for multi-lingual TTS or CTS. BOSS comes with a number of tools to facilitate the creation of new voices.

A speech corpus for German (free for non-commercial use) can be downloaded at our website.

Please visit the BOSS homepage at for further information. The BOSS source code and binaries are hosted at the Sourceforge website:

The Institute for Communication Sciences invites everyone to participate in the development of the system or the creation of new corpora.
