Date: 09-May-2010 - 09-May-2010 Location: Nicosia, Cyprus Contact: Kleanthes Grohmann Contact Email: kleanthiucy.ac.cy Meeting URL: http://www.punksinscience.org/kleanthes/GACL-4/index.html

Linguistic Field(s): Language Acquisition

Other Specialty: Biolinguistics

Meeting Description:

I am pleased to announce the one-day student-oriented workshop:

GACL 4 (forget the acronym, just visit the website):

http://www.punksinscience.org/kleanthes/GACL-4/index.html

To take place at the University of Cyprus in Nicosia on May 9.

GACL 4 will be followed up by a tutorial workshop on experimental production methods by Sonja Eisenbeiss on Monday, May 10.

Anyone interested in participating, and even giving a paper, please get in touch with me. We'd be happy to organize crash space and try to keep all other costs low if anyone's interested in coming out here!

Now in its fourth instalment, it is fair to say that GACL has become a local institution for and with many (under- and postgraduate) students, and we continue to try and attract international visitors as well. Luckily, this year we were able to 'lap onto' LOT 1, the first international graduate student conference in Linguistics organized by some of our PhD students. Please visit this announcement:

http://www.ucy.ac.cy/goto/EnglishStudies/en-US/NewsEventsAnnouncements.aspx

(7-8 May 2010)

The invited speakers at GACL 4 are:

1. Tom McFadden (University of Tromsø), who was secured for GACL 4 early on and then became available as an invited speaker at LOT 1 as well

2. Sonja Eisenbeiss (University of Essex), who will be visiting the Cyprus Acquisition Team (http://www.research.biolinguistics.eu/CAT) for a week as part of the Erasmus exchange agreement between our departments

3. Maria Kambanaros (European University Cyprus), a CAT member, who has come to Cyprus at the beginning of this academic year to start the first university program in Speech and Language Therapy

This event is a student-directed and -integrating workshop. This year's 'theme' is work on language acquisition (with typical development and language impairment) and wider biolinguistic issues carried out by my undergraduate and doctoral students, and several CAT members will be presenting their work here.

Sonja Eisenbeiss will also offer a tutorial on production methods on Monday (just get in touch with me for further details).

GACL 4 is open to attend for anyone interested! We welcome all students and faculty at UCY and beyond, and in particular LOT 1 participants. (Apologies for the late announcement, but there have been some organizational issues.) Attendance is, of course, free of charge.

Looking forward to seeing you from there all the way over here,

Kleanthes Grohmann University of Cyprus Dept. of English Studies Assoc. Prof. and Chair (as of May 2010)
