Meeting Description:

The Department of Modern Languages, German philology section, of the University of Helsinki will arrange a conference on 'Styles of Persuasion in Europe' on September 2, 2011 in Helsinki

The main focus of the colloquium will be on the text type 'commentary' / 'editorial' in newspapers and on radio and television.

The conference language is German.

Invited plenary speaker is Prof. Dr. Heinz-Helmut Lüger (University of Koblenz-Landau/Germany).

The conference fee of approx. 20 Euro should be paid by July 31, 2011. We ask all participants to take care of their accommodation and travel arrangements themselves. Call for Papers:

We invite proposals for papers of 20 minutes (plus 10 minutes discussion), including an abstract of one A4 page (about 300-400 words), to be sent before January 31, 2011.

Papers should deal with methodological questions of the contrastive analysis of persuasive texts, or present results of empirical investigations into commentaries in different linguistic communities or discourse cultures, or in different media or in different press types.
