Meeting Description:

The Speech, Language and Learning Intervention Research Symposium is planned and hosted by a team of speech and hearing science doctoral students and faculty mentors at Arizona State University’s College of Health Solutions.

We are focused on the development of interventions for children with speech, language and learning disorders who come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, addressing issues of equity, inclusion and access. This conference has been specifically designed in accordance with the philosophy that the development of effective interventions is dependent upon collaborative efforts from all stakeholders — practitioners, educators and community members, along with researchers.

2nd Call for Papers:

Deadline for submission is extended to January 31, 2022

The Speech, Language and Learning Intervention Symposium seeks proposals for presentations and posters that explore innovative solutions to advance the quality of intervention and education for children with disabilities from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds centered around the theme, “Breaking the Intervention Mold: Diversifying Paths to Educational Success.”

At last year’s conference, presentations and discussions focused on pressing issues in intervention for diverse populations and the factors that impact both assessment and intervention. This year’s conference will explore steps stakeholders in PreK-12 schools, clinics and universities can take to collectively make education accessible for children who are culturally and linguistically diverse.

Presentation abstracts and posters should be data-driven (experience, practice or research), demonstrate clear learning outcomes and relate to this year’s conference theme and topic areas. Methods should be appropriate and well described. Presentations should be approximately 20 minutes in length.
Topic areas

The conference is organized in three tracks on these topic areas:

Spotlight on literacy: New approaches to literacy instruction for diverse groups, with an emphasis on reading and writing.
Evolution through collaboration: Collaborative approaches to providing equitable access to educational success.
Redefining success: Addressing equity, inclusion, and bias to move education forward with a special focus on defining success using more inclusive metrics.

Important Dates:

Deadline for proposal submission: January 31, 2022, 11:59 p.m. MST
Notice of acceptance: February 15, 2022
Deadline for final submissions: March 1, 2022
