At the School of Humanities of the University of Mannheim, the Department of English is seeking to fill the position of a
Junior Professor (W1) for Interdisciplinary English Studies (m/f/d) at the earliest possible date.

The successful candidate (any gender) will be able to conduct interdisciplinary research and teach at the interface of Linguistics and Literary/Cultural Studies of English. The position of a Junior Professor strengthens the empirical research profile of the University of Mannheim and is data-based. The successful candidate will therefore be able to demonstrate methodological qualifications with a doctoral thesis or with specialized publications, as used in psycho- or corpus linguistics, language acquisition research, or empirical/cognitive literary studies. The ability to connect to main research areas at the English Department is expected. (Main research areas are Language Acquisition, Language Change, Language and Cognition, Contemporary Fiction, Literature and Empathy.)
To strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation between Linguistics and Literary/Cultural Studies, the research focus of the junior professorship should be situated at one of the following interfaces:

- Poetics or Aesthetics and Language Processing
- Reading and Writing Studies and Literacy
- Digital Humanities or Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing

The teaching and examination obligations extend to the degree programmes B.A. Current English Linguistics and Literary Studies (CELLS), B.A. and M.A. Culture and Economics/Business Administration: English/American Studies, M.A. Language and Communication, M.A. Literature, Media and Culture of Modernity as well as B.Ed. and M.Ed. English. The junior professorship will contribute to the "Core Studies" module of the B.A. CELLS programme, which combines Linguistic, Literary and Cultural Studies topics in the field of English/American Studies.
