Linguist List - Guidelines for announcing publications

Guidelines for Announcing Publications on LINGUIST

LINGUIST announces new books, journals, working papers, and Tables of Contents for journal issues. We also maintain a searchable database of linguistics books and journals. Contractual relationships with publishers prevent us from announcing publications submitted directly by authors. If you are an author who would like to see your book announced and/or reviewed on LINGUIST, please direct your editor to contact our Publications Team at pubs#at#linguistlist.org for more information.

Acceptable submissions, conditions:

  • New publications which are directly relevant to the field of linguistics may be announced once in the year of publication.
  • Announcements which have been posted are permanently archived, but records may be updated to reflect that a given item is Out of Print if necessary.
  • We may be willing to host your entire back catalogue in our database. Please email us at pubs#at#linguistlist.org for more information.
  • Due to software limitations, the length of a publications submission must be kept to 4,000 characters.

How to submit an announcement:

  • Except in unusual circumstances, all submissions for announcements made on The LINGUIST List are made using our webform.
  • Our Publications Editor at pubs#at#linguistlist.org will give you a login and password to enable you to do this. Although we will help all we can with any initial problems in transmission and formatting, LINGUIST can not be responsible for routine proofreading and editing.
  • If you cannot submit your announcements using the webform for any reason, please contact the Publications Team at pubs#at#linguistlist.org for assistance.

Submitting a book for review:

  • Publishers who wish a book to be reviewed on LINGUIST must send in a book announcement as described above. Our database integrates book announcements, reviews, and information on authors or editors; therefore we will not review books which have not been announced on LINGUIST.
  • At minimum, one review copy of your book should be sent to the reviewer when the title has been selected. The Reviews team (reviews#at#linguistlist.org) will contact the publisher with the information on the reviewer and where to send the review copy.
  • Calls for book reviewers are sent out by the Reviews Editors each month.
