Description 		Sekolah Tinggi Keguruan Dan Ilmu Pendidikan (STKIP) PGRI Sumatera Barat dibuka berdasarkan surat izin Koordinator Perguruan Tinggi Swasta Wilayah I tanggal 22 Mei 1984 No. 115/SK/KOP/I/1984 dengan empat Program Studi yaitu Bimbingan dan Konseling, Pendidikan Biologi, Pendidikan Sejarah dan Pendidikan Geografi. Keempat program studi tersebut dibuka dengan jenjang program Sl/Akta IV yang menyiapkan guru yang berwenang penuh mengajar di tingkat SLTP dan SLTA dengan satu bidang studi.
